📢 Announcement
The O/o the Controller General of Patents, Designs & Trade Marks(CGPDTM)

The Office of the Controller General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks (O/o CGPDTM), through its announcement dated 21st July 2025, has released the much-awaited schedule for the Patent Agent Examination 2026. This examination presents an opportunity for eligible candidates to apply and participate, provided they meet the stipulated eligibility criteria. Only candidates who fulfill these requirements will be permitted to appear for the examination.

Candidates who successfully pass the examination will be designated as ‘Qualified’ and become eligible for registration as authorized Patent Agents in the official Patent Register. Upon registration, Patent Agents are empowered to engage in activities pertaining to patent prosecution and enforcement before the Patent Office under the Intellectual Property Office (IPO), India.

Under the provisions of the Patents Act, 1970, qualifying the Patent Agent Examination is a statutory requirement to practice as a Patent Agent and to have one’s name entered in the Patent Register. Any individual found practicing without meeting this prerequisite may be subject to legal action as per the relevant provisions of the ACT.

[Important Note]: "The Patent Agent Examination 2026" registration process is only available in Online Mode and as notified by the Office of CGPDTM.

📘 The Patent Agent Exam 2026 Eligibility

• The Patent Act 1970:

Aspiring candidates for the Patent Agent Examination 2026 are advised to crosscheck their eligibility in accordance with the provisions outlined in Section 126 of The Patents Act, 1970.

• The Patent Rules, 2003:

The qualifying criteria for the Patent Agent Examination 2026 will be determined in accordance with Rule 110 of The Patent Rules, 2003.

📝 How to Apply for the Patent Agent Examination 2026 ?

2. Visit The Intellectual Property Office, India in case you need latest details

[IMPORTANT - Pre-Checks] - PAE 2026 Online Application

Dear Candidates, kindly note below details handy before you proceed for Online Registration for PAE 2026.

• 📧 Ensure you have a valid personal email ID and working mobile number.
  • Note: Candidate need to make sure the email ID and mobile number is in working status, the end to end examination online login and communication and details are via these two. 
• 📸 Upload a clear, high-resolution passport-size photograph in JPG/JPEG format. The file size should up to maximun 300 KB.
• ✍️ Upload a legible signature in BLACK INK ONLY in JPG/JPEG format, not exceeding 100 KB.
  • Note: Signatures in CAPITAL LETTERS will not be accepted.
• 📄 Prepare and keep ready scanned copies (preferably self-attested) of the following documents in PDF format:
• Proof of Age (Any One) :– PAN Card, Driving License, Class 10th Certificate, Birth Certificate, etc.
• Degree Certificate :– As per Section 126(1)(c) of the Patents Act, 1970 (as amended).
• Proof of Citizenship (Any One) :– Passport, Voter ID Card, Birth Certificate, or Certificate of Nationality.
3. Register with email and mobile number.--> Make sure unique User ID is selected.

Post registration. You will receive your User ID and PAE 2026 Application Number on your email as well.

4. Fill out the online form with Personal and Examination related details
5. Upload documents (Photo, Signature, Prrof of Age, Certificates, Proof of Identity)

6. Its highly recommended to the candidate to re-check all details given in application form before Final Submit. No changes will be allowed once form is submitted.

7. As per the Rule 109(3) of the Patents Rules, 2003 the required fees for the Patent Agent Examination registration is ₹. 1600/- (Indian Rupees Sixteen Hundres Only) and same can be paid in online mode only, kindly pay the fee and submit the application.

💻 Mode of Exam

The exam will be conducted in three parts in offline mode only,

✍️ Paper 1

Paper 1 - Objective Question Paper of 100 Marks - MCQ - Multiple Choice Questions having one and/or more than one option correct

• Duration: 2 hours
• Questions: 100 MCQs
• NO Negative Marking

✍️ Paper 2

Paper 2 - Descriptive Question Paper of 100 Marks - Descriptive type

• Mode: Physical
• Duration: 3 hours
• Questions: Descriptive types

Schedule for Viva-Voce examination will be announced after the completion of written examination. List of the candidates selected for the Viva-Voce examination will be published on the website. Only those candidates who have scored minimum of 50% marks in each paper separately will be allowed to appear for Viva-Voce.

• It will be face to face, Techno-Legal interview at the relevant IPO Office

The Viva-Voce will be conducted in physical mode only as per the annouced schedule.

🧾 Results

The final results will be available tentatively around March 20^th, 2026 on the official website of the Indian Patent Office.
